A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME

Amy Studio_edited.jpg

I first found yoga in my late teens, attending classes with my mum. I loved it from the very first class, the way it made my body feel, the way it calmed my thoughts and the togetherness I felt with the others in the class. I remember buying a video (yes that’s how long ago!) of yoga with Barbara Curry and playing it so often that the tape almost wore out. In my mid 20’s life got in the way and I lost my way with yoga but have always kept fit and had a healthy lifestyle. I returned to classes in my late 20’s and felt at home again, this time delving a little deeper into the non physical practice of yoga. I have been taught by different teachers with varying styles over the years. I benefited from yoga immensely throughout both of my pregnancies which supported my changing body and prepared me mentally and physically for the births of my two boys.

As yoga had supported me so well up to this point I decided to train with the British Wheel of Yoga to be able to share this ancient wisdom with others. In 2017 I undertook a foundation course with Angela Ashwin followed by a  500 hour level 4 teacher training diploma covering anatomy, physiology, Hatha and Raja yoga, classical texts such as Patanjalis Yoga Sutras, the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita, yoga philosophy and history.

I am particularly drawn to the pranic system and exploring the chakras, bandhas and koshas. My teaching style is based on the guidance of the eight limbed path of Patanjali. The emphasis is not just on the physical body but how our thought processes affect our practice and vice versa. Each class ends with a meditation to allow students the opportunity for stillness and connection to our theme.

I attend regular classes, workshops and cpd training and have immense gratitude to all of my teachers past and present. I will forever be a student of yoga, I love to learn new things and pass this on in my teaching.

Now in my 40’s I am currently based in the beautiful village of Ilchester in Somerset and offer beginners, chair, restorative and mixed ability yoga classes. One to one or private group sessions are also available.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you on your yoga journey.

Namaste
